WORKSHOPS

Zanzibar 4.jpg

Designed to encourage a rethink of everything we do. From the social and environmental challenges we face, to happiness, efficiency, values, mass-consumption, how we spend our time, career creation, attitude, adventure and, the big one, how do we rebuild society and where should we fit in it as individuals.

Practical

Making a living from your passions: This is part practical workshop and part discussion, covering the basic steps needed to start making a living from the things you love, with clarity and awareness of the challenges you'll face along the way.

Tackle how to avoid falling out of love with your passion because there's an income attached to it, plus developing personal motivation, increasing productivity and even learning how to deal with the stigma and potential loneliness of setting out on a new and different career path.

You'll end this session not necessarily with an entire plan mapped out, but with the confidence that you can make a living from your passions.

Filming & Editing:

This is the perfect session for anyone wanting to capture their adventure without dishing out extra cash on camera gear - you can do it straight from your smartphone.

Dave has filmed with his iPhone for years and introduces real-life examples and skills, as well as an interactive live-demonstrations of how to edit on a phone. See his film from Japan, shot entirely on an iPhone. Although the filming half of the workshop is relevant to any phone or small camera, he will be teaching how to edit specifically on the iPhone.

Web and Print Design:

Dave & Emms are totally self-taught to build effective and websites and you can be too. We'll run a guidance workshop using a couple of example hosting platforms and give you the tools you need to begin building your own website. We'll have a further one-to-one session to check out your individual ideas and needs. By the end of the week, you'll have a solid foundation from which to start building your brand and expanding your marketability.

Business Set-up & Accountancy:

Whether you're building a business or going freelance, it's best to get all the official stuff sorted from the off. Dave has been doing his own accounts for years and although it's his least favourite task of the year, it really doesn't have to be the headache you think it is. You don't have to be a qualified accountant, you just need to have some simple processes in place to make the system work for you and keep the tax man happy.

Social Media:

If you're an individual or a small brand aiming to create more impactful, positive and interactive social media content, this is the session for you.

Running a good social media network is a huge step in creating a modern day brand, learn how to grow your audience and develop a strategy to ensure future updating isn't just easy, but fun as well. Keeping your message on track at the same time as relating to your followers is at the heart of all social media, and this workshop will help you get creative at the same time as sharing tips and tricks to get ahead of your competition.

Public Speaking:

This session comes with the opportunity to write an engaging talk and trial your presentation style in front of a small group - as well as building on your confidence in speaking, you'll also get honest feedback from your peers and critique to develop your skills. Dave will also discuss methods and share experiences of earning a living as a public speaker.

accommodation: red monkey lodge

Yep, you guessed it - it's called Red Monkey Lodge for a reason! They've moved in.

During our stay at the gorgeous Red Monkey Lodge, we'll have run of the whole place to create our home away from home and really settle in.

Red Monkey lodge is a cozy small beach lodge with just 12 rooms, beach bed area, hammocks, reading corner with book exchange and sea view restaurant and bar.

The rooms are entirely made with local techniques and materials - mainly white cement and precious hardwood recycled from old fishing boats.

Red Monkey Lodge is located right on the stunning Mfumbwi beach in Jambiani on the south east coast of Zanzibar. Jambiani is a small fishing village with a long stretch of white sandy beach lined with palm trees.

Mass tourism is non-existent here so it's nice and quiet and retains it's original atmosphere being very much an integral part of the local village.

Check out the short film of Dave's last trip to Red Monkey Lodge back in 2013.
