For me, like many, Coronavirus has been financially devastating.
My wife and I have been searching for a small plot of land upon which we can fuse the current community work we do (bringing people together, often outside) with a business that more or less achieves similar goals: camping, glamping, unique overnight/weekend rentals, retreats, that kind of thing.
We were just gearing up our search before the lockdown, and more importantly we were preparing to take on a loan that pulled our stomach muscles tight.
And the thing is, it was worth it. Despite each of losing an entire year’s worth of work, it still is.
Of course, the money isn’t going to earn itself (and we’re quite grateful this project wasn’t fully underway otherwise right now I wouldn’t be feeling so chipper!), so I’m going to try an experiment.
I’m lucky enough to have a few useful skills. My main income is speaking to audiences (who are usually in the same location) about adventure, positive mindset, building habits and community. I can write, I can host events, I know how to set up a podcast and make the interviews stick. I can edit films and teach other people how to do that too - even if they only have a smartphone. I can offer advice on planning adventures and taking on a unique, instinct-based lifestyle.
I can also design websites, but if I’d enjoyed that I wouldn’t have quit and embarked on a life that taught me all of the stuff above, so maybe we leave that.
In short, I’m here, I’m ready to work, I want to make this dream come true for my wife and I and most importantly, I don’t have a set rate.
I’m offering up all of the skills above to you, and all I ask is that you pay what you can afford, or if you can afford a lot, you pay what you think my work was worth.
I know that this means at times I’ll be offering my time and energy for less than I’d usually be paid, but that’s ok. Right now I’m not busy. I’m eager and healthy and want to be useful.
Pay whu l it’s worth - offer services. Mentor ship, chats, hosting, website, film, talk to your company. Fill in form, make an offer. I’m lucky enough to have a number of skills which I enjoy sharing
